The past is a sleeping volcana.
Seeming so stable.
But just one look,
one word can trigger,
Something from it's dreams,
A memory.
Memories
unwanted
Hurtful.
Full of love and pain.
Left in the back of your mind.
Things in the past,
Lies, Deception.
Anger, Laughs
All part of me.
Made me
who I am.
Strong,
Sensitive.
I could do without,
Past, Memories.
The past is asleep,
Don't wake it,
Please.
I'm not sure if I actually like this one or not, Hmmm....
Do you know?
Like or not?

I'm not sure either. There seems to be a bit of contradiction in this one. You know that your memories and experiences have made you who you are and yet you don't want to acknowledge them. Hmmm...
The past has already happened. The future never turns out exactly like we expected. Now is the only time to worry about. It is the only time to be in. So don't dwell on your past and don't worry about the future. That is the message I wish more people would embrace.
You know, there isn't a single thing you can do to change the past. Not a single thing. It's okay to be regretful and wish you'd done things differently or said things differently. More importantly to me, to learn the lessons our mistakes were meant to teach up and decide to do better and be a better person. To look to the future and be true to who you are.
Okay, I really don't like this poem. Yuck, and yes, I do know that you can't change the past, I try to live in the present and future. I'm trying.
Here is what your poem evoked in me:
Stay tuned for
The pretty life--
roses are red,
violets are blue,
beep . . . beep . . . beep . . .
We interrupt this show to bring you this
News Flash
Volcano erupts
gray ash fills the air
lava etches rivers
choking fumes of sulfur
Here, there is no room for pretend
only true words
poetry revealing seismic power
courage for living
-Dad
Dad- Wow! You should be writing instead of me. :) I'm glad that my poetry is getting people to think, even if it's my worst poem.
